Verona Car Crash Victim Airlifted To Hospital, More Details Released

The car crashed through the exterior wall of a building and trapped the driver, Verona fire officials said.

VERONA, NJ — The Verona Fire Department has released additional information about an incident involving a car that crashed into a building near Claremont and Pompton avenues on Friday, resulting in the airlifting of the driver from the scene.

According to Verona fire officials, Verona's Rescue 1 and Engine 14 responded to the intersection of Pompton and Claremont avenues on a report of a motor vehicle that had crashed through the exterior wall of a building and created an entrapment situation. Upon arrival, firefighters found the driver trapped inside the vehicle. While firefighters worked to extricate them, Verona's Engine 11 set up a landing zone for a medical helicopter at Brookdale Avenue School.

VFD responders eventually extricated the victim via airlift to a nearby hospital, authorities said.

The Cedar Grove Fire Department responded to the scene and participated as part of the extrication team, authorities stated.
