Verona Cops: North Caldwell Man Clipped Pedestrian, Left Scene

Verona police say that a North Caldwell man allegedly left the scene of an accident after he stuck a pedestrian with the mirror of his car.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Verona police say that a North Caldwell man allegedly left the scene of an accident after he stuck a pedestrian with the mirror of his car earlier this month.

According to the Verona Police Department, the incident took place on Bloomfield Avenue around 6:42 p.m. on April 17. The victim told officers that the side mirror of a Ford or Lincoln model vehicle struck them in the arm, causing injury, then left the scene.

Police recovered the passenger side mirror housing of the alleged hit-and-run vehicle on the scene, authorities said.

After viewing video footage of the scene from multiple locations along Bloomfield Avenue, a Verona detective was able to gather a description of the driver and vehicle, which was also involved in a previous traffic “incident,” police said.

When Verona detectives arrived at the home of the registered owner of the vehicle, they found the car in the driveway with damage to the passenger side mirror, authorities said.
