Verona Fire Department Lends Helping Hand To Essex Neighbors
The VFD recently helped battle fires in Essex Fells, Millburn and Fairfield. Read more about each incident here.

VERONA, NJ — The Verona Fire Department lent a much-appreciated hand to several other Essex County departments last month, showcasing the spirit of mutual aid that runs deep in the area.
According to the Verona Fire Department, the most recent team-up took place on July 11, when the VFD was requested for mutual aid at an Essex Fells house fire.
The VFD wrote:

“Truck 12 responded as the 2nd due truck company and was immediately put to work upon arrival at the fire scene. Truck 12’s crew laddered parts of the structure with ground ladders and performed ventilation work, as well as checking for fire extension on the interior and exterior. Truck 12’s crew operated on scene for approximately an hour and a half before returning to service.”
MILLBURN BRUSH FIRE

Another mutual aid situation took place on July 10, when the VFD was requested to respond mutual aid into the Township of Millburn for a working brush fire on Brookside Drive.
The VFD wrote:
“Engine 11 responded and immediately assisted Millburn units with deploying supply hose lines. Engine 11’s crew also worked in conjunction with Millburn and South Orange FD crews to assist in extinguishing the fire. Engine 11 operated on scene for approximately 3 hours before returning to service.”
FAIRFIELD HOUSE FIRE
On July 1, the Verona Volunteer Fire Department was requested to respond into the Township of Fairfield for a working house fire.
According to the VFD:
“VFD’s Engine 14 responded and members were assigned fire extension and overhaul responsibilities. The fire was quickly placed under control and Engine 14 was released from the scene after operating for approx. 1 hour.”
