VERONA, NJ — When Verona firefighters arrived on Sunset Avenue on Wednesday, they found a dangerous situation that threatened to get worse.
After receiving multiple reports of a transformer on fire and downed wires, Verona Volunteer Fire Department crews headed to the scene and found a large tree in the road with multiple live wires down. The wires presented a fire threat to nearby homes, so Verona firefighters soaked them down for “exposure protection,” authorities said.
PSE&G workers eventually secured power and authorities deemed the area “safe.” The scene was cleared about two hours after firefighters arrived, authorities said.
