Verona Library Preparing For Grand Reopening On Gould Street

Verona book lovers – and those who make use of the "21st century" library – should prepare for a much-anticipated homecoming on Dec. 1.

VERONA, NJ — Verona book lovers – and those who make use of the “21st century” library – should prepare for a much-anticipated homecoming next month.

The Verona Public Library will hold a grand opening for its newly renovated space at 17 Gould Street on Saturday, Dec. 1, ushering in a new era for literature lovers in the township. During a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officials and staff will celebrate 125 years of library service in Verona.

After being temporarily located at 880 Bloomfield Avenue, the library will temporarily close on Monday, Nov. 19 to prepare for the grand reopening on Gould Street.

During a day of activities from noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 1, visitors can partake in:

  • Face Painting
  • Balloon Art
  • Crafting
  • 3-D Printing
  • Verona’s own “Great Scott, the Magician” will be strolling throughout the building with his bag of tricks
  • Celtic Harpist Joan Eagan will be performing in the Carnegie Corner

According to a news release from the library, its collection of items currently includes more than 50,000 books, periodicals, DVDs, audiobooks, CDs and video games. In addition to these items, some new features at the renovated building include:

  • An elevator, for navigating all three floors
  • Comfortable new seating
  • 10 computer stations, and additional computer carrels for laptop work
  • Charging stations
  • Cozy “Carnegie Corner” for relaxing with a book and a cup of coffee
  • Working fireplace with a refurbished mantle
  • Jack Foley Meeting Room updated with added kitchenette
  • Friends of the Library Youth Activity Room
  • Maker Space Room in the Young Adult area with 3-D Printing and Virtual Reality Technology
  • Junior Women’s Club of Verona Community Meeting Room
