Police activity Feb. 3-9.

The following reports were prepared by the Verona Police Department and do not necessarily indicate convictions.

2/3/2012

4:56 PM Officer Robert Shafer took a report of Harassment from an Amy Court resident.  The resident reports that he received a threatening phone call from an ex tenant of his.

7:45 PM Officer Shafer took a report of a neighbor to neighbor dispute on Green Acres Drive. 

7:49 PM Sgt. Paul Watkins responded to the area of Sunset Ave & Bloomfield Ave on a report of a dispute on a bus.  The driver reports she picked up a passenger at Willowbrook Mall and that the passenger only paid for a 1 zone ticket.  After passing the first zone the driver advised the passenger that she would need to pay additional money. The passenger ignored this request and was asked to leave the bus and to await another bus which would be arriving shortly. The passenger complied with this request.

8:27 PM Officer Tim Banta took a report of a motor vehicle that had been entered on Stonewood Parkway.  Nothing appeared to be missing at the time of the report.

 

2/4/2012

9:32 AM Officer Anthony O’Connor arrested Matthew Meilands of Verona on an outstanding warrant from the Verona Municipal Court.  After processing he was released on bail.

 

2/5/2012

1:37 AM Office Steve Young took a report of Criminal Mischief on Meadow Lane.  Unknown actors(s) broke a tree that was planted curbside at the corner of Hill St and Meadow Lane.

2:14 PM Officer Joseph Ballantyne took a report of a theft from a Miele’s restaurant.  The business owner reports that a 55 gallon drum containing used cooking oil as well as a snow blower were taken from the rear of the business.

 

2/6/2012

8:26 AM Officer Ballantyne took a report of a theft from a Linden Avenue resident who reported various articles of clothing missing.

10:09 AM Officer Joel Martin took a report of a fraud from a Park Avenue resident. The resident reported unauthorized charges on his bank check card.

11:58 AM Officer Ballantyne took a report of a suspicious person in the area of Lanning Avenue.  On two occasions an older Asian male was observed standing in the area of the school.  A check of the area for the subject was negative.

 

2/7/2012

12:10 PM Officer Barry took a report of harassment from an Amy Ct resident.  The resident reports receiving several phones calls from an ex tenant after a court appearance in landlord tenant court.

 

2/8/2012

10:41 AM Officer Anthony O’Connor responded along with the Verona Rescue Squad to a Pompton Avenue doctors office on a report of a person who fell.  After treatment by the rescue squad the victim refused transportation to the hospital.

10:54 AM Officer Barry took a report of harassing phone calls from an Afterglow Avenue resident. The resident reports for the past few months she has been receiving phone calls which display as “private name/number” on her caller ID. No messages are left and when she does answer the caller does not speak.

11:03 AM Officer Bill Frazee took a report of a larceny at Platinum Fitness.  A patron reports leaving her cell phone on a shelf while exercising in the gym. Upon returning to the area where she left the phone it was missing.

1:36 PM Officer O’Connor took a report of a suspicious motor vehicle from a Newman Avenue resident.  The resident reports when he returned home the prior evening he observed a white van with several occupants parked near his driveway.  When the resident parked his vehicle in the driveway the van, described as white Dodge Ram work van with a magnetic sign, quickly left the area.

2:40 PM Officer O’Connor took a report of a threatening email received by the administration of The Children’s’ Institute. 

 

2/9/2012

10:42 PM Officer Page Parsels took a report of a stolen vehicle from a Morningside Road residence. The resident reported hearing a door slam and an engine start. When she looked out her window she observed her vehicle being back out of her driveway.  Surrounding towns were notified and the vehicle was last observed on Freeway Drive in East Orange.
