Verona High School Summer Enrichment Program
Verona High School is partnering with Caldwell College and Bergen County Community College to offer a new summer enrichment program for students in 10th through 12th-grade.
High school students have the option of taking a history course on the Vietnam War, a writing power class or a course on professional food preparation techniques and receiving both high school and college credit. Classes start late June and continue on into late July.

Verona Superintendent Steven Forte came up with the idea and he said it was an extension of the summer enrichment courses offered to district students on the elementary and middle school level.
Forte said he and the school staff selected courses that would help the students academically and offer them something to work on.

With the culinary course, Forte said he hopes to include another level of students in the summer program. "They don't have to be college-bound, but they do (have the option to) get college credit," he said.
The other bonus is students have the chance to try a course they might not normally have the opportunity to try, said Kim Ferlauto, the high school director of counseling services. Students can earn 2½ high school credits and up to 3 college credits, depending on grade.
Each class has about 10 to 15 openings and the registration deadline is May 15. Any openings left after the deadline will be filled on a rolling basis, Ferlauto said.
The basic fee for the Vietnam War and writing course is $195 for Verona residents and $250 for non-residents. To be eligible for credit with Caldwell College, there is a $300 additional fee.
The basic fee for professional food preparation techniques course is $280 for Verona residents and $335 for non-residents. To be eligible for credit with Bergen County Community College, there is a $202.20 additional fee.
Registration forms are available at the high school's website and should be dropped off at the school along with payment.
