The Verona High School senior was accepted to seven out of eight of the “Ivy League” schools: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University.

Bostrom never applied to the eighth Ivy League school – Dartmouth College – according to reports.

He then visited four campuses, taking the time to speak to students and professors at each, especially those involved in computer science… his planned major.

And what was Bostrom’s final choice?

Harvard.

THE WINNING FORMULA

A NorthJersey.com report detailed some of the achievements that made Bostrom such an attractive applicant:

  • Finished in top 10 percent of his class
  • Recorded a 2200 on the SAT exam
  • Scored high on six different AP tests
  • Extracurricular activities included: marching and jazz bands, concert and jazz choir, peer leadership, tutoring, track team, Verona Waves summer swim program, math team
  • Participated in the Chinese, French and Italian clubs and the school’s environmental club
