Patch Election Guide: 2011 General Election

Candidates, polling places and more.

Today is Election Day, and though neither Verona or Cedar Grove have a municipal race, voters will have several decisions to make on the ballots.

On the ballot in both townships will be several state and county races, including four open seats for Essex County Freeholder At-Large. Incumbents Blonnie Watson, Rufus Johnson, Patricia Sebold and Donald M. Payne Jr. face five challengers for their seats on the nine-member board, Reuben Torres, , Peter Campisi, James Boydston and .

The 40th Legislative District, of which Cedar Grove is the sole Essex County Member, will feature a State Senate race between Incumbent Sen. Kevin J. O'Toole (R-Cedar Grove), and Cedar Grove Mayor John Zunic (D-Cedar Grove).

For General Assembly, for which two candidates must be voted on, voters will choose between Democrats William Brennan and Cassandra Lazzara and Republicans David Russo and Scott Rumana for the

Essex County Surrogate candidates include , a Democrat, and . They will be on the ballot in both townships.

In the race for District 4 Freeholder, which has been a closely watched and contentious race, , of West Caldwell, who has been acting District 4 Freeholder since August, will face , a Republican and the current Deputy Mayor of Cedar Grove. The two men at Verona High School.

In Verona, which last year was bumped into the 26th Legislative District, voters will decide between , who will attempt to unseat incumbent for State Senate. For General Assembly, it is a race between Democrats Elliot Isibor and Joseph Raich and Republicans Alex DeCroce and Jay Webber.
