WALL, NJ — Two people were arrested following an investigation into a series of theft and identity fraud incidents at the Genesis Health Club locker rooms on Atlantic Avenue, Wall Police said.
The investigation began after multiple reports of items that were stolen from secured lockers at the gym.
From there, detectives identified Andrew Cosenza, 26, of Manasquan, and Edward Byham, 35, of Howell, as suspects.
According to police, evidence showed that Cosenza would check into the gym and then allow Byham to enter through a side door to avoid the front desk and primary surveillance.
The pair targeted cash, credit cards, and personal items.
When Cosenza was arrested on December 20, 2025, he was found to be in possession of suspected heroin and various prescription pills, police said.
He was also found with stolen U.S. Passport cards, a Georgia driver's license, and a New York driver's license belonging to other people, along with several stolen credit and debit cards.
Further investigation revealed a "bust-out" cellular fraud scheme.
In this scheme, suspects use stolen personal information to open new cellular accounts and rapidly finance high-value electronics — such as the iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods — with the intent to abandon the accounts without making payments.
These items were then shipped to an address associated with Cosenza.
Cosenza was charged with credit card fraud, theft by unlawful taking, and possession of CDS, while Byham was charged with identity theft, credit card theft, and receiving stolen property, police said.
Seized evidence also included counterfeit checks, according to authorities.
Both Cosenza and Byham were processed at Wall Township Police Headquarters and lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
"This investigation shows the commitment of our Detective Bureau to protecting our residents from those who use stolen information for financial gain," Lt. Steven Nash said.
