WALL, NJ — This year’s Republican primary race for Township Committee is packed in Wall with three candidates running for two of the party’s open spots.
Candidate Jonathan A. Syby is running for election to the committee against incumbents Daniel F. Becht and Erin M. Mangan.
No one has filed a petition to run for committee in the Democratic primary race.
Ahead of the Primary Election, Patch posed several questions to Syby about his campaign platform, experience and what sets him apart from other candidates running. His replies are below.

What drove you to seek public office?
I have always been active in my community, and I have served for 28 years as an EMT on the Wall Community First Aid Squad.
My goal is to continue to give back to our town by working with our town residents to make the best decisions that enable more governmental transparency, ensure public safety, prevent overdevelopment and responsibly manage affordable housing mandates.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
I have lived in Wall since 1987, and I have seen our town evolve from a rural farming community to a highly desirable place to live that is being overdeveloped.
I believe that Wall Township residents need a person who will represent them well with new thoughts and ideas on how to preserve Wall Township’s open space.
What are past accomplishments or experiences that make you qualified for this position?
I am a community-focused resident of Wall, and I am a scientist, inventor, and a medical device commercial leader with Johnson & Johnson.
I currently serve as a global strategic marketer for our surgical device business, and I have the financial acumen, strong analytical and negotiation skills needed to get the best results for Wall Township and our residents.
If elected, what will be your top priorities in your new role?
I am running to bring transparent, accountable leadership to Wall Township — focused on preserving open space, strengthening the community, and responsibly managing affordable housing.
