In an online post, the pizzeria said it is "with great sorrow that we announce the ceasing of operation of Serpico's Pizza in Allenhurst."

While the restaurant didn't provide a specific reason for the closure in their announcement, they thanked customers and employees who have supported them over the years, adding that they've had "a wonderful time" serving the local community.

"We hope that you will think back on your interactions with us as fondly as we remember serving you," the pizzeria staff said. "Thank you all."

Founded in November 1994 by Anthony Serpico and Charles Clarke, Serpico's has become a staple of the Allenhurst community over the years and has been there for "the first day of school, Halloween, returning college students on Thanksgiving break, graduations, and our younger customers coming in with their children years later," the staff said.

According to a report from NJ.com, the pizzeria's closure comes after the business was listed for sale on BizBuySell with an asking price of $225,000.

The listing went on to describe an owner "retiring after successfully operating the business," the report said.

Though Serpico's in Allenhurst has closed, original co-owner Charles Clarke has since brought the shop to Maui, after moving there with his wife and six kids.
