Wiffle Ball tournament founder dedicates mountains of time to better community

Chris Cotta, school district employee and founder of the annual wiffle ball tournament, was honored for his countless hours of volunteer time in service of the community at the Township Committee's meeting Wednesday.
Cotta in 2008 conceived, founded and each year organizes the wiffle ball tournament, attracting more than 900 participants and more than 300 teams, according to the proclamation read by Township Committeman Clinton Hoffman.
Cotta this year also conceived and organized a popular corn toss tournament run at this year's fair.

Through the tournaments, Cotta raises thousands in support of the fair and has declined to take any compensation for his time or effort, according to the proclamation.
Cotta, who has handed out trophies to hundreds in the wiffle ball tournament, was presented with one of his own. It was the first he's received, Hoffman said.
Cotta also received a plaque in thanks for his efforts, presented to him by Ed Grill, Recreation Department head.
Cotta in a short speech after the presentation thanked scads of people for helping him put the tournaments together.
