Southern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce 10th Annual Golf Outing

The Southern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce (SMCC) will hold their 10th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, July 16th. This year’s event will benefit Sylvia’s Children, a 501(c)3 that supports a the Mbiriizi Advanced Primary and Day Care school in Mbiriizi, Uganda. The golf outing is being hosted by Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake NJ.  This year, the Chamber will have a special guest golfer, former heavyweight boxer Gerry Cooney. Mr. Cooney will be on hand throughout the day and will be golfing with a group of participants. Presenting sponsor this year is O’Meara Financial Group located in Red Bank, NJ; Supporting Sponsor is Frank J. Fisher, Esq.

Registration begins at 11:30 am, followed by lunch, a putting contest then a shotgun tee-off. Entry fee includes a golf cart, locker facilities, access to the driving range, golf gift, luncheon, dinner and awards. There will be a one-hour open bar with music, prizes and games from 107.1 The Breeze. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner and awards. This is the first time the SMCC golf outing is being held at the Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake, NJ. Incorporated in 1898, the Spring Lake Golf Club features a beautiful 18-hole course designed by one of America’s greatest golf course architects, Albert Warren Tillinghast.  Over the years the club has played host to a number of prestigious golfing events.

Cooney, a former heavyweight boxer is known for his big left hook and for defeating former heavyweight champ Ken Norton in 1981. He is ranked #53 on Ring magazine’s list of “100 Greatest Punchers of All Time” and holds a personal record of 28 wins, three loses, and 24 knockouts. Mr. Cooney will be on hand throughout the day’s activities and will be signing memorabilia.

eliminate poverty by creating African entrepreneurship within the school and give the children a quality education so they can go on to secondary school and a career. Over the past nine years, the organization has been able to raise over $600,000 in much-needed funds, all of which has gone directly to the school and its children.
