Fire Damages Wall Home; Firefighter Suffers Minor Injury, Police Say

The New Year's Eve fire significantly damaged the home, police said.

WALL, NJ -- A Wall firefighter suffered a minor injury and a home was significantly damaged in a New Year’s Eve fire, Wall police said.

Police responded to a Randolph Way home about 3 p.m. for a residential structure fire, Lt. Pete Lokerson said. Arriving officers found the attached garage actively burning, he said. All of the residents and the pets had evacuated safely, he said.

The fire spread from the garage to a vehicle in the driveway, and about half of the house before Wall firefighters were able to extinguish it, Lokerson said.

The firefighter was injured while ventilating the roof, Lokerson said. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for a precautionary evaluation, he said.

Firefighters with the South Wall Fire Department, West Belmar Fire Department and Glendola Fire Department responded, and received support and assistance from the Neptune Independence Fire Company, Wall Township Fire Bureau, Wall Township EMS, Monmouth County Fire Marshall, New Jersey Natural Gas, and Jersey Central Power and Light, he said.

Traffic in the immediate neighborhood area was closed around Randolph Way during the incident and the subsequent investigation. The investigating officers are Patrolman Michael Cacciatore and Detective Tom Lasko, Lokerson said.
