WALL, NJ - A former bookkeeper at a Shore-area health club was recently sentenced to three years in state prison for taking tens of thousands of dollars from the business between January 2012 and June 2017, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jennifer Ambrosino, 42, of Point Pleasant, was sentenced to three years in prison for theft in the amount of $75,000 from her employer, The Atlantic Club, and was ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution by Superior Court Judge Paul X. Escandon.

The Point Pleasant resident pleaded guilty to second degree theft by unlawful taking on April 28.

The charges come following a joint investigation conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Wall Township Police Department, and the New Jersey Department of Treasury, Office of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation found that Ambrosino embezzled over $223,000 from the gym for personal use. Ambrosino concealed the theft by altering bank statements, initiating fraudulent wire transfers and submitting erroneous reconciliation documents, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
