Mail Theft & Check Fraud Scheme Targeted Local Businesses, Wall Police Say
A New Jersey man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of theft and passing bad checks in connection with the scheme, police said.
WALL, NJ — A New Jersey man has been charged with multiple counts of theft and passing bad checks in connection with a scheme targeting local businesses, Wall Police said.
In August 2025, the detective bureau of the Wall Township Police Department started an investigation after receiving reports that several business checks had been intercepted in the mail and diverted for fraudulent deposit.
As a result of this investigation, Johnnie Harris, 30, of Hackensack, was identified as the suspect and charged with multiple counts of theft and passing bad checks, police said.

He was charged on a complaint warrant with six counts of third-degree theft, two counts of DP theft, four counts of third-degree bad checks, two counts of fourth-degree bad checks, and two counts of DP bad checks, police said.
“The Wall Township Police Department remains committed to protecting our business community from criminal schemes,” Wall Police said. “We urge local business owners to remain vigilant regarding their mail and to report any irregularities in expected payments immediately.”
