Man Fatally Struck By NJ Transit Train Near Jersey Shore Station

SPRING LAKE, NJ - A male pedestrian was fatally struck by a Long Branch-bound shuttle train in Spring Lake Thursday night, transit officials said.

Shortly before midnight, the North Jersey Coast Line train 4398 struck and fatally injured the male pedestrian just before Spring Lake station, an NJ Transit spokesman told Patch. The victim's name was not immediately released.

Around six customers or crew were on board at the time, the spokesman said. There were no injuries reported to those on board.

The train left Bay Head at 11:34 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Long Branch at 12:13 a.m., the spokesman said. The train was reportedly the final eastbound shuttle train of the night from Bay Head to Long Branch for the night.

New Jersey Transit Police are currently investigating the incident.
