Newark Subway debut

Today in New Jersey history:

May 16,1935: The Newark City Subway, which used the bed of the old Morris Canal, began to carry passengers between Heller Parkway and Broad Street.

The subway was actually more of a "light rail" system, as much of it ran above ground.
