Memorial Day Crash Kills NJ Man

The crash occurred Monday evening when a vehicle struck a male scooter rider who was trying to turn onto Route 35, authorities said.

WALL, NJ — A 47-year-old man has died following a crash on Monday evening, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

At 5:50 p.m. on Monday, Wall Police responded to a vehicle-versus-scooter crash at the intersection of Route 35 and Belmar Blvd.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a woman was driving a 2024 Kia Seltos going south in the right lane of Route 35 South when her vehicle struck a man operating a 2022 Buddy Kick 125 Scooter, who was trying to turn left onto Route 35.

The collision propelled the man onto the southern part of the roadway, Santiago said.

The man, only identified as a 47-year-old scooter rider from Neptune, was then rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 6:50 p.m.

The driver of the Kia Seltos remained at the scene of the crash. Authorities have not released the identity of the driver.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Wall Township Police Department is active and ongoing.
