From Poe To Pumpkins, Get A Thrill At Allaire Village In Wall

There are lots of ways to get into the Halloween spirit at the Historic Village at Allaire in Wall. Check out some upcoming events.

WALL, NJ — It's the season to be a little spooked, and the Historic Village at Allaire in Wall is just the ticket to get you into the Halloween spirit.

One event to keep in mind before it sells out is "An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe," Oct. 7 and Oct. 8. Tickets can be purchased for $30 for two performances each night, one at 6:30 p.m. and the other at 8:30 p.m., according to the Allaire website.

A "spine-chilling evening" with a retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's classic stories is promised. The performance by Helen McKenna-Uff takes place in the historic chapel.

Advance registration is required for this very popular event which sells out in advance every year. There are no refunds on tickets purchased, and tickets should be printed out or be on your cellular device at check-in. The doors open 15 minutes before the show starts.

Then there is the popular "Night of Frights," scheduled for later in October. According to the website, there are programs on Oct. 14 and 15 and Oct 21 and 22. All are starting at 6 p.m. and cost $10 for a child, $15 for an adult.

This event includes storytelling at the Chapel and the Manager's House has fortune-telling for your entertainment. Look for Mr. Allaire's Macabre House, the Carriage House with legendary spirits and treats at the Bakery plus a Haunted Food Truck, and more attractions.

For a historic look at Halloween, there is the "All Hallow's Eve Celebration" on Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in which you can celebrate Halloween as it was in the 19th century. Learn about Halloween's long rich history and the origin of the traditions we know of today. There will be Spooky Story Telling, Soul Cake Baking, Turnip Carving and Fortune Telling.

Find ticket information here. Tickets are either $4 for kids and $8 for adults in advance or $5 for kids and $10 for adults on the day of the event.

And consider testing your artistic skills with the "Allaire Scare Pumpkin Dare" Pumpkin Carving Contest. Contestants need to have a pre-purchased ticket for All Hallow's Eve and bring a carved pumpkin to the event where it will be entered into a "scare" category and judged. The winner gets a trophy and a gift bag.

Proceeds from these events benefit The Historic Village at Allaire, a nonprofit organization that preserves the historic buildings and provides educational programming for over 9,000 students annually.
