State Department of Transportation officials said an accident Sunday caused damage that required temporary lane closures Monday on Route 34.

WALL, NJ — Northbound Route 34 lanes were reopened at about 8:15 a.m. Monday after emergency construction there, state transportation officials said.

An accident Sunday in which a car struck a fire hydrant on Route 34 north near Route 524/Allaire Road prompted commuting delays in the area Monday morning, according to Stephen Schapiro, communications manager for the Department of Transportation.

Emergency construction began around 4:15 a.m., he said. He said a water main break had to be repaired and all lanes reopened as of 8:15 a.m. Monday.
