Today in New Jersey history:
May 3, 1941: The New Jersey National Guard’s 44th Division, on active duty at Fort Dix since September of 1940, held its “biggest ever” review, in honor of Secretary of the Navy Frank M. Knox, who was the guest of the 78th Division Veterans Association, holding its annual reunion at Fort Dix. Knox had served as an enlisted man with Theodore Roosevelt’s “Rough Riders” in the Spanish American war and as an artillery officer in the 78th Division in World War I.
