The Captain is drunk -- and TV is on the Way!

Today in New Jersey history:

April 1, 1814: The Martha Furnace iron forge clerk recorded the events of a militia drill at Bodine’s tavern in his diary: “Captain Townsend was so intoxicated that he did not know the duty of a Captain. At length they had a courtmarshal [sic] over him.”

April 1, 1939: DuMont Laboratories was licensed to begin experimental telecasts, although commercial broadcasting was still nine years away. The station eventually became WABD, Channel 5.
