The Real "Boardwalk Empire"

Today in New Jersey history:

March 23, 1933: Alexander “Al” Lillien, a major East Coast bootlegger during the Prohibition era, was murdered in Atlantic Highlands, suffering three gunshot wounds in the back of his head. Lillien, who was thirty-six years old, was buried in Beth David cemetery in Kenilworth. The case remains unsolved to this day.
