Two Wars on the Same Date

Today in New Jersey history:

April 25, 1846: The United States declared war on Mexico. The people of New Jersey, on the whole, were not enthusiastic, and the first call for troops resulted in no enlistments, as not enough men responded to create units.

April 25, 1898: Spain declared war on the United States. New Jersey National Guardsmen would subsequently be called to Sea Girt to form volunteer regiments for service in the war. The New Jersey Naval Militia was called up to serve on various navy ships, some of them engaged in the blockade of Cuba.
