Wall Police Urge Residents To Lock Cars After Pair Charged In Thefts

The duo was caught and arrested when the driver was stopped for failure to maintain a lane and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Wall Township police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and to not leave valuables in them, even when the vehicle is in the driveway, after police charged two people with theft in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries.

Colleen Kamil, 30, of Seaside Heights, and Maurice Peace, 29, of Asbury Park, were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 18, and charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft, Wall Lt. Pete Lokerson said Monday.

Kamil was pulled over for failure to maintain her lane while westbound on Allaire Road at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 18, Lokerson said. She was then arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated by Sgt. Miles Shanklin and Patrolwoman Megan Alexander, he said.

Subsequent to her arrest and impound of her vehicle, a number of items were seen inside the vehicle that did not belong to Kamil or Peace, including a purse, various credit cards and electronics, Lokerson said.

A further investigation by the Wall Police revealed that just prior to her DWI arrest, Kamil and Peace had entered multiple unlocked vehicles in the north end of the Wall, stealing various property, including vehicles on Tally Ho Drive, Manor Drive, Foxfield Circle, Hunters Lane and Pacific Avenue, Lokerson said.
