WALL, NJ — Students participating in summer programs at Wall Township's school can return to those programs Wednesday, the district announced.

"As of this morning, the Intermediate School, Allenwood and the Primary School have power restored. Therefore, I will open the district today for students in summer programs and for professional development," Wall Superintendent Cheryl Dyer said. "However, the schools that are operating on generators might not have air conditioning. If needed, those schools will close early today (WHS. Old Mill, Central, and West Belmar)."

District transportation will be operating, she said.

The resumption of summer programs at the schools comes as the town continues to grapple with power outages following a storm Monday evening that brought with it winds of 60 to 70 mph that brought down trees and power lines across Monmouth County.

About 30 percent — just over 3,900 as of 8 a.m. — of Wall's 12,775 homes and businesses served by Jersey Central Power & Light remain without electrical service. Nearly all of Sea Girt has been restored, the company says, with more than 31,000 homes and businesses still without service in Monmouth County.
