Woman Hits Gas Instead Of Brake, Car Hits Wall Restaurant: Police

No one was injured in the incident at the Blue Peach Cafe, police said.

WALL, NJ -- A Point Pleasant woman was charged with careless driving after she hit the gas instead of the brake, causing her car to hit the front of the Blue Peach Cafe on Saturday, police said Monday morning.

Gwendolyn Whitworth, 90, of Point Pleasant, was not injured in the incident, nor was anyone in the restaurant, at 2517 Route 35, Detective Lt. Greg Carpino said.

Whitworth was driving a 1999 Honda Civic and while parking it Saturday morning just after 9 a.m., she accidentally hit the gas, Carpino said. Her car traveled over the curb, through a bench and struck the building, causing minor damage to the window frame of the building, he said.
