$100K Scam Asking For Legal Fees Targets Warren Resident

Three Warren residents each reported fraud in the past four days including one where $100,000 was stolen.

WARREN, NJ — A Warren resident was the latest victim of a scam where about $100,000 was stolen, said police.

On Saturday at 11:35 a.m., a resident from Broadway Road came to headquarters to report an incident of theft by deception.

The resident said she sent multiple packages of cash to someone identified as Michael Bennett for legal fees for representing her family member, said police.

She lost about $100,000 as a result, said police.

On June 2, two more residents reported fraud.

A Kenquit Road resident reported they lost $900 in a Facebook Marketplace/Zelle scam, said police.

A Katherine Drive resident also reported an incident of fraud where a utility payment check was altered and cashed for $13,500.43, said police.
