4 Hospitalized As Tractor-Trailer Fully Loaded With Groceries Overturns On Watchung Circle

Four people were hospitalized following the crash. The clean-up took almost seven hours to clear on Thursday.

WARREN, NJ — Four people were hospitalized after a tractor-trailer fully loaded with groceries overturned hitting two cars on the Watchung Circle causing major delays Thursday.

At around 7:40 a.m., Watchung Police went to the intersection of Hillcrest Road and Valley Road for a crash involving three vehicles.

Witnesses at the scene told police that a tractor-trailer was driving south on Hillcrest Road and into the intersection of Valley Road when it overturned, hitting two passenger vehicles in the opposing lane, said Watchung Police Detective Lt. Scott Anderle.

The tractor-trailer was fully loaded with grocery-type perishable goods. Four people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident investigation and vehicle/debris removal created major traffic delays including a road closure until about 2 p.m.

The Watchung Police Traffic Unit is still investigating the incident.
