9/11 Memorial Assembly Completed

Township project set for Nov. 4 unveiling and ceremony.

As the final cleanup of pavers surrounding Warren's new 9/11 Memorial was finishing up, artist Ralph Garafola looked at his design approvingly.

When asked if it matched his concept, he said it did—even better than he'd hoped.

Passers-by will get a glimpse of the completed monument today, before a cover is put over it ahead of a ceremony dedicating the monument at 10 a.m. Nov. 4.

The final assembly took place Monday, as the twisted steel girder from the World Trade Towers was hoisted and welded into place on two granite columns.

The site now includes the three granite benches donated by the Warren Lions Club, and a marker in front noting the numbers of first responders killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The dedication will cap a two-year project to create and build the memorial, which is being undertaken with donations from residents and area businesses (information about how to donate can be found under the "9-11 Monument" tab on the Warren Township website).
