Abby Cline Signs Letter to Play at Delaware

Abby Cline, a member of Watchung Hills Regional High School’s Class of 2013 participated in an invitational event most senior athletes long for: She was the recipient of a National Letter of Intent, a bid to both attend and to play softball  at the University of  Delaware.

The signing of the Letter of Intent is an annual, nationwide event through which colleges offer a place in their freshman class to young persons who excel at their sport as well as in academics.

Cline, a four-year varsity letter holder, has been a member, as well as pitcher, of Hills’ softball team for all four years and has captured many honors during that period. She was named to the First Team/All County as well as the First Team /Skyland Conference and won the title of Most Valuable Player in the Somerset County Tournament last June. She holds a four-year varsity letter from Watchung Hills.                                                                                                                  

The Millington resident who’s been playing softball “since the age of five,” is also involved in the sport outside of school as a member of the New Jersey Breakers, a group that is active in the tri-state area (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania).

Softball coach Mike D’Alessandro said that Cline is most deserving of the honor bestowed upon her; she’s been a standout player for all four years and has led the Hills team to victory during many of those years.
