WARREN, NJ — A team of eighth-grade students from Warren Middle School took first place in the New Jersey State Bar Foundation's Annual Law Adventure Contest, beating out more than 84 submissions from across the state.
The students' winning case, Beverly and Theodore Ziety vs. Orange 12, Inc., centered on a fictional legal dispute in which parents sue a social media platform for allegedly contributing to a teenager's mental health disorder.
The case tackled one of the more pressing legal and social questions of the moment — the potential liability of tech companies for the mental health consequences their platforms have on young users.
The team presented their case before an audience of approximately 200 people at the New Jersey State Bar Foundation in New Brunswick, where they received high praise and commendations from the judges.
The township congratulated the students on their achievement and the recognition it brings to Warren Middle School.
