Jr. Warriors Varsity School Opponents in Pre-season Scrimmage

Franklin & Trenton Get Schooled by Jr. Warriors Varsity in Pre-season Scrimmage (Regular Season Opener – Next Saturday)

In a dominating football display that bodes well for the coming season, the Junior Warriors’ varsity team was all business in their annual 5-team pre-season scrimmage at the Hillsborough Football Complex this past Saturday.  Although the team was scheduled for 4 scrimmages, Paterson dropped out and Jersey City arrived too late to play.  Nevertheless, the Junior Warriors took advantage of the 2 remaining matches to sharpen their arsenal and send a message that Watchung Hills plays to win.

After allowing the only opposing TD of the day, that came early in the matchup with Trenton, the boys from Watchung Hills settled down and for the remainder of play, it is was all Junior Warriors. From that point, the offense went on to score 9 unanswered touchdowns – 3 against Trenton and 6 against Franklin (there were no field goals, or extra points).  The JW’s defense was particularly effective, often driving their opponents well behind the line of scrimmage.

All the boys played well; however, of particular note were: Johnny Yorey, who quarterbacked, ran the ball, and was a one-man-wrecking-crew on defense, and Jake Belot, who ran the ball for 2 touchdowns.
