In association with National Poetry Month, you are invited to come hear WHREA English teacher Michael Porter present his talk, Emily Dickinson's Rhythms. Emily Dickinson's poetry is well-known for her startling imagery and metaphors, as well as her trademark dashes, but listening for the rhythms in her poems opens up a whole new aspect of her writing.

Michael Porter is currently an English teacher at (Rutgers Univiversity, B.A. history and English 1991; George Washington University Law School, J.D. 1994). He teaches American literature to juniors, creative writing, and the SAT prep course and serves on the executive committee of the Watchung Hills Regional Education Association.

Mr. Porter has been a huge fan of Emily Dickinson's poetry ever since he was a junior in high school.  On Aug. 14, 2011, he made a trip to Amherst, Mass., to visit the Dickinson home and museum. A series of videos that he made about his "field trip" can be found at www.youtube.com/mnolanporter
