LOCAL VOLUNTEERS TO REPAIR HOMES IN APPALACHIA
Car Wash Fundraiser, May 17
Green County, Tennessee is only 600 miles from Somerset County, New Jersey, but for some local youth participating in an upcoming volunteer service project, the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee will seem like a world away from home.

The youth will be part of a team of volunteers from Warren and surrounding towns that will travel to Tennessee June 29-July 5, to repair homes with Appalachia Service Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those living in rural Appalachia.
All ASP volunteers will be camping in classrooms of a local church and will pay for all their food, travel and supplies, including tools. To financially support this trip, volunteers are hosting Car Wash on Saturday, May 17, from 10 am to 2 pm, at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, 42 Liberty Corner Road, Warren.

“This service trip takes youth and allows them to learn about poverty in the United States first hand. By working alongside residents and eating meals with them, teams get to know the beauty of Appalachia and the resilience of the people there,” said Warren resident Carrie Kitze, a second-year ASP volunteer and mother of two youth who will also participate in this project. “Evening programs also allow team members to explore their misconceptions about poverty and challenges them to find ways to make a difference. It's truly a life changing program, regardless of if you are 13 or 60.”
