Great minds gathered in Central School’s Gym on June 16th for Invention Convention 2014! This is an annual event where 5th graders have an opportunity to showcase their innovative and creative talents. It gives students a chance to apply problem solving skills to create an invention to solve an everyday problem. Many of the skills learned in Science, Language Arts, Math, and Art are combined and used by students to create a new product and design a presentation.
After two months of research, planning, and developing their inventions, our young inventors spent the day pitching their new products to peers and parents. The following are some inventions certain to improve the lives of many: Vroom Vroom Broom (an over the top utility broom), The Migraine Mitigator (a necklace with supreme essential oils), Peek-A-View Bird Condo (an environmentally friendly twist on the bird house), Off the Hook (a cooking apron with a plethora of utensils), Stop the Stench (an enhanced shoe freshener for athletes) and more!

This is a non-competitive event where recognition is received for participation and effort. Certificates are presented in the following categories: Most Useful, Most Creative, Most Marketable, and Best Presented inventions. Many of our 5th graders look forward to this event all year long, and it again proved to be a rewarding and enjoyable day for all!
Special thanks to Mary Beth LeBlond who organizes the Invention Convention every year, as well as to the following teachers who assisted as part of the team: Will Kielblock, Melissa Krynski, and Melissa Stoeckel.
