Children's Art Classes at the Watchung Arts Center

Drawing and Painting Enrichment Workshops: 10-week winter session begins January 6.

The winter session on the Children’s Drawing and Painting Enrichment Workshops will begin on January 6, 2015. Painting classes will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, with Drawing scheduled for Thursdays at the same time. The 10-week sessions will run through March 10 and 12, respectively.
Young artists in the drawing class will have the opportunity to develop natural ability, improve skills and explore new techniques as they learn the fundamentals of drawing. Students will use dry and wet media such as pencil, charcoal, oil or chalk pastels, India ink and watercolors as they discover how to sketch, shade and use perspective. Projects will include still lifes, portraits, landscapes in natural settings (weather permitting), optical illusions, abstracts and more!
In the painting class, students create realistic pieces or let their imaginations go as they learn how to use non-toxic acrylics on canvas boards. Young artists will produce colorful works as they learn the basics of traditional technique of painting, composition and the color wheel
