Classic Rock Concert Replaces Canceled Band Battle

Friday's performance by Glass Cow caps summer music programs.

After claiming first place in last year's Battle of the Bands sponsored by the Warren Township Recreation Commission, Glass Cow seemed to have scared off the competition.

Recreation Commission Director Eleanora Hermann said too few bands registered for a reprise battle this summer, but two groups from last year—Glass Cow and Short Circuit—signed up. Instead of facing off, the bands are enjoying solo performances at the municipal complex. Short Circuit appeared Sept. 14, and next week, Glass Cow will perform beginning at 7 p.m. Sept. 28.

"The two bands that signed up asked if they could still play—I agreed and they felt Friday night was best for teens," Hermann said.

About 60 people attended last week's concert, but Glass Cow could pull a larger crowd—not only did the band win last year's battle, but has been building a fan base, thanks to their covers of popular classic rock songs appealing to teens and parents.

While at the show, the audience can help become producers of Glass Cow's next full recording: donations will be accepted at the concert to help pay for the studio time and production costs.
