Data Centers Are Now Banned In Warren Township: What To Know

WARREN, NJ — Warren Township has banned data centers following a vote at a town committee meeting last week.

At a June 18 meeting, Committeeman Daniel Croson, who introduced the ordinance, said that the decision to prohibit data centers is about protecting residents.

He added that data centers strain the township's energy grid and water supply.

The Township Committee in May gave first-round approval to an ordinance that would ban data centers.

Township officials were quick to note that no applications, proposals or known plans exist for any data center in Warren.

The ordinance and subsequent ban is instead a preemptive measure, they said, aimed at protecting the township's character, natural resources and infrastructure before any such proposals emerge.

"As a community, we must take a deliberate and strategic approach to planning for the future," Mayor Shaun Fine said in May.
