Local bonsai hobbyist, Michael Markoff presents The Art of Bonsai in Meeting Room 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. Dr. Markoff has been creating and displaying bonsai trees for over 10 years, winning several awards, and garnering the “People’s Vote” in the prestigious New Talent Contest of The American Bonsai Society. He has over 100 bonsai trees in his Japanese-themed garden and is currently vice president of the Great Swamp Bonsai Society. The Art of Bonsai is a presentation explaining the origins and concepts of this ancient Japanese discipline, and includes the initial designing of a bonsai tree starting with a common garden juniper. The designed tree will be raffled-off at the conclusion of this 1 ½ hour program.
