Joe Biden Visits Somerset County, See Road Closures

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — President Joe Biden is making a stop in Somerset County as part of his trip to New Jersey, barely a week before the state's 2021 gubernatorial election.

Biden will join Gov. Phil Murphy at a "non-campaign related event," according to the New Jersey Globe, making stops at a day care center in North Plainfield and the New Jersey Transit Meadowlands Maintenance Complex in Kearny. The president is hoping to rally support for his bipartisan infrastructure deal and Build Back Better agenda, News 12 New Jersey reported.

The infrastructure bill includes $12.3 billion for New Jersey, as well as funding to be tapped to build the long-awaited Gateway Tunnel, NJ.com reported.

North Plainfield Police listed several roads closed due to the President's visit:

• North Jackson/Farragut closed.
• Farragut Place to dead end closed
• North Jackson will be closed
• Belmont and Oneida is closed.
• Brook/Sandford is closed.
• Mobus closed at Farragut.
• Rutledge Ct. is closed.
• Hurley will be closed between Oneida and Belmont.
• Manning Eastbound at Sandford will be closed.
• Norwood will be closed between Manning and Brook.
• Lewis St. will be closed between Mountain and Mobus.
• Brook Ave will be closed between Oneida and Manning.
• Mountain Ave will be closed between Brook and Oneida.
• Summit is closed between Somerset and Watchung.

Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a VIP Movement Notification in the area of Newark from 1 through 8 p.m. on on Monday, Oct. 25.
