Along with their teachers Tara Keller and Carol Keirstead, preschoolers have maintained their momentum and excitement since the year began at Mount Horeb School.

During their first unit of study called “Welcome to School”, they met new friends, practiced social skills, and enjoyed learning about bus safety. Autumn arrived and with it came lessons of the great outdoors including studying leaves, squirrels, acorns and apple trees. Not only did the children describe, count, sort, and graph apples by color, but they helped prepare delicious applesauce.

Their teachers have been explaining classroom technology, including the SmartBoard which has been very exciting for the students. They enjoy practicing some of their favorite songs and dance moves using the SmartBoard. It is also used as a tool to practice movement and directions.

Like all of their role models, and fellow Mt. Horeb students, they are eager for Halloween to arrive. Preschoolers have been talking about their costumes with an emphasis on vocabulary and descriptive details. They dressed up and practiced Halloween safety, displaying positive interactions with others, as well as polite manners. Balance and coordination exercises were even more fun as they made their way through huge webs set up by Michelle Barbagallo. Looking ahead, November will present many learning opportunities for these classmates to discuss their family members and special holiday traditions.
