Peter and Karole Lewis, founders of the Eastern Opera Company of New Jersey and parents of a WHRHS choir student, recently presented a full day workshop to high school choir students.
The collaborative duo performed some of their own repertoire and led students in masterclass seminars. During the seminars, select choir students performed prepared pieces in an audition setting similar to what students would encounter for entrance into college music programs.
Accompanied by their director, Mrs. Angela DiIorio Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis offered constructive criticism in areas of support, breathing technique, posture, stage presence, tone, musical interpretation and more.
Charlotte Finnerty, a senior in the choir and prospective future music teacher who performed for the Lewis' had the following to say: "It was a great experience to work with people like Mr. and Mrs. Lewis. It reinforced everything the choir has been hearing from Mrs. Bird for the past few years but sometimes it takes hearing it from someone else to really sink in. Even the first year music students in the class were able to notice a difference in the sound and the performance of their peers."
