WARREN, NJ — What was initially reported as an active shooter situation in Warren turned out to be only a miscommunication between a husband and wife.
Around 4 p.m. on Thursday, authorities responded to 25 Independence Blvd. for an active shooter situation at that location, Warren Police Lt. Paul Dziedzic reported.
"The response was not the result of a hoax, but after an investigation was determined to be a miscommunication between a husband and wife," Dziedzic said.

Confusion arose following a text message from the husband to his wife.
The husband works most days at the Warren location but other days at an office building in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.

While working in Manhattan a fire broke out on a different floor and he thought the commotion and the sound of firefighters breaking windows meant an active shooter was present, police report.
His wife called 9-1-1 thinking he was at the Warren location.
Warren Township Police investigated and confirmed there was a fire with the New York Police Department in Chelsea.
Along with Warren Police, New Jersey State Police, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Bernards Township Police and Long Hill Township Police were among those who also responded.
