WARREN – Somerset County Freeholder Brian D. Levine, human services liaison, invites county residents to a free six-week Take Control of Your Health (TCYH) interactive workshop for people with chronic medical conditions. This workshop begins Thursday, April 9, at Warrenbrook Senior Center, located on the golf course at 500 Warrenville Rd.
The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program will run from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays, April 9, 16, 23, 30 and May 7 and 14. Advanced registration is required by Thursday, April 2. This evidence-based program is designed to give individuals with health conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or asthma the knowledge and skills needed to take a more active role in their healthcare. Caregivers are encouraged to attend.
Participants will learn healthy living techniques, including symptom management, healthy eating, exercise strategies and stress management. The program will help individuals communicate effectively with doctors and health care teams. Research confirms that participants increase healthful behaviors, experience improvements in outlook and confidence, and are less limited in daily activities.
