The Plainfield Symphony Annual FREE Family Concert

The Plainfield Symphony will present its annual Family Concert on Saturday February 8, including two famous and beloved works – Benjamin Britten’s The Young Peoples Guide to the Orchestra and Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice .

The Britten piece was composed in 1946 with a subtitle "Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell". PSO Board member, Harry Ailster will be our narrator and guide. Each major family of instruments of the orchestra is introduced in the theme and each variation then features a particular instrument in depth followed by a whirlwind fugue.

Known to children of all ages from the Walt Disney movie,

Fantasia, The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a symphonic poem by the French composer Paul Dukas, written in 1896–97. The piece was based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's 1797 poem of the same name.
