Police See Connections in Recent Auto Thefts

Second theft in a week reported Tuesday.

Police say a pair of auto thefts in Warren this week may be part of a series of thefts in the area, Tuesday.

Tuesday, a Geiger Lane resident reported the theft of a 2011 Range Rover from the residence's driveway sometime during the night. The vehicle was reported stolen at 6:13 a.m.

That theft followed the theft of a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E350 from the garage of a High Oaks Drive residence during the night of Dec. 30.

According to Warren Police Capt. Robert Glen, residents need to take precautions to prevent such thefts.

"The advice that I have to prevent these thefts is pretty straight forward—close and lock your garage doors; lock your vehicles doors," Capt. Glen said. "And don't leave the keys in the car!"

According to the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Report, there were three motor vehicle thefts in 2009, but none in 2010. Also, a 2008 Mercedes was reported stolen in August.
