Union Twp. Woman Convicted Again In Fatal Drunk Driving Crash In Warren

Amie Marroccelli was convicted of vehicular homicide after a drunk driving crash on I-78 in Warren resulted in the death of an Annadale man.

WARREN, NJ — A Union Township woman was convicted for the second time by a jury on Oct. 13 for vehicular homicide after a drunk driving accident on Interstate 78 in Warren resulted in the death of an Annadale man.

Amie Marroccelli, 44, was previously tried and convicted for this offense on March 17, 2014. She was sentenced to seven years in New Jersey State Prison for the death of Steven Wall, 22, on Oct. 10, 2010.

Her conviction was reversed by the Appellate Division who claimed Marroccelli did not have the opportunity to introduce a note at trial. The note, supposedly written by her husband, claimed that Marroccelli was not driving the car at the time of the crash and that her husband was the driver.

The crash occurred around 7:56 p.m. in 2010 Warren, where both Marroccelli were driving eastbound.

Marroccelli struck Wall’s vehicle in the center lane when she abruptly changed lanes from the left to the center. As a result of the impact, Wall’s vehicle was forced off the highway to the right, where it collided with trees. Wall died as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash, Robertson said.

Marrocceli’s blood alcohol content was found to be .087 percent about three hours after the collision — which is a driving while intoxicated offense. An expert for the state also testified that at the time of the crash, the presence of ethyl alcohol in Marroccelli’s blood would have been .14 percent, Robertson said.

At the time of her re-trial in 2017, Marroccelli introduced the note wherein her husband claimed he was driving.

After the verdict, Marroccelli’s bail was revoked and she was remanded to the Somerset County Jail pending sentencing on Dec. 8.
